We bought this for our 6 year old son when his little brother kept on stealing his Mini Micro and he was growing out of it anyway. It has a metal foot plate that is tough and the joystick can easily be converted to adult height in a blink. The joystick took a little getting used to but now he is the envy of the other boys at school because the look of this scooter is so slick compared to the plastic predecessors. I bought it instead of the Maxi because I thought that it would last him longer without having to buy an intermediate scooter. The Maxi was just coming out and it just didn't look the same build quality. My younger son is now 5 years old and he likes to have a go on the Kickboard too, especially if we are scooting on a rougher track or footpath when his Micro scooter just doesn't go as well on the rough ground as the larger wheeled Kickboard. I wouldn't be led by the websites suggestions to get the Maxi over the Kickboard for your child. I suspect it is better for them if you end up buying three of there scooters instead of jumping striaght to the kickboard! If your child is a capable and dedicated scooter user the Kickboad is a better investment.
